House Finches are seen gathered in a pack as is usually the case on such days.  There is safety in numbers; thus, the sudden presence of a hungry bird such as a Sharp-shinned Hawk sees the finches scattering in all directions as they cheep loudly.  The scattering and vocalizing distracts the hunter making the catch very difficult.
