The Ravens, having had enough with the beach, took flight away from Ocean Beach, San Francisco, heading for the surrounding forested land where they can find their kind of food.
West Nile Virus, carried by mosquitoes NOT by birds, was continuing to kill high numbers of birds in much of California during the Summer of 2005. Fortunately, such is not the case in San Francisco. The reason West Nile is not a threat in San Francisco is the almost constant, bone-chilling wind coming off of the Pacific Ocean. Homes and buildings in San Francisco do not have screens on doors and windows. They are unnecessary here. The Crow, cousin to the Raven, is also thriving in San Francisco. Every day sees families of them coming to the old-growth pine outside the City Birds windows searching for food in the opened cones. The juveniles and adults all appear very healthy and enjoying life in the City. A City Birds digital photo. |
