March 4, 2006, while visitors from Japan were enjoying a walk at Lafayette Square Park, a tall Cypress Tree suddenly came crashing to the ground.  For its height, the Cypress has a shallow root system.  The combination of excessive rain and strong wind, brought the tree down in the midst of the visitors.  They had very special memories of their San Francisco visit to take back with them.
