Graced by a Civil War Era cannon on the grounds of Fort Mason, San Francisco is McDowell Hall, built in 1855.
Built as soldiers quarters, from 1943 McDowell Hall was occupied by the Commanding Generals of the Army's Western Headquarters. Today the building is used as a U.S. Army Officers' Club. The building is located on the East side of Fort Mason in the area named Black Point by settlers due to the dark vegitation growing on its cliffs. A City Birds digital photo. |
