The markers of our heroes provide a lot of history to think about. Our National Cemeteries, as well as local cemeteries throughout the land, provide an opportunity to reflect on the true cost of war and to mingle among the heroes who paid the price for those wars.
Major General Edmund B. Sebree of Illinois was born in 1898, the year our War with Spain began. He served in both world wars and the Korean War. Living in a world of "armchair generals" it is easy to lose sight of the fact that many generals have found themselves among their troops, where the metal meets the meat; and they have preformed above and beyond the call of duty. Major General Sebree, as seen on the marker, was well decorated -- a hero. A City Birds digital photo. |
